Director
Tammy Hamilton-Willams
Tammy opened St. Basil Preschool in January 1995. Tammy has a B.A. in Early Childhood Development and has taught at all levels from preschool through sixth grade. Tammy is the only Mentor Director in San Joaquin County and counsels other directors in our area to improve the quality of education in childcare. Tammy was also a Validator (Assessor) for N.A.E.Y.C. and currently acts as a independent consultant for Accreditation Preparation.
She is a member of Local Child Care Planning Council, President of Stockton Early Childhood Administrator Association and is a member of Central Valley Association for the Education of Young Children. Tammy and her husband, Terry, raised three sons who live in New York City, Sacramento, and San Francisco.
2’s Teddy Bears
Brenda DeRoos
Brenda joined our staff with 10 years experience in early childhood education. The mother of twins, Brenda is quite comfortable in a classroom filled with action and excitement. Brenda possesses special qualities in creativity and dramatic play, with loving guidance. The children love story time with Brenda!
Brenda is currently working toward her B.A. in E.C.E.
Originally from Livermore, Brenda and her family now reside in Stockton.
LeAnne Reeves
LeAnne brings years of experience in teaching as well as directing a YMCA program. LeAnne has been with St. Basil Preschool since 1996. LeAnne has a background in working with children with special needs.
3’s Lambs
Somaly Seang
We first met Somaly in the winter of 2011. She was a student teacher from Delta College and was working in the 4 year old class five days a week with Desiree Aguirre. We liked her so much we asked her to stay!
Somaly loves all aspects of the classroom and especially enjoys interacting with the children. She is extremely resourceful and will often bring new ideas in for her class. Somaly is generous with her hugs and can often be found with a child in her lap! Somaly will receive her A.A. in Child Development this spring.
Doreen Spohn
Doreen joined our staff in 1996 and has taught both the 4’s and 5’s. Doreen is an excellent communicator and will put your mind at ease if you ever have a concern or question. Doreen and her husband, Ron, have two children. There is plenty to look forward to this school year if you are a Little Lamb!
Helen Bustamante
Helen has taught and directed for many years. Helen joined us in 2004 after years of directing St. Luke’s Preschool. Helen is extremely knowledgeable regarding child development and children’s behaviors. Helen and her husband Jess enjoy their nine grandchildren and love to travel. Helen is currently out with a broken arm, but will hopefully return in a few months to assist in the afternoon classes.
4’s Busy Bees
Desiree Aguirre
Desiree will be at the helm of our biggest classroom! Desiree was the first teacher on staff here at St. Basil back in 1995. She has a knack for creativity. She takes on her role as educator with gusto and excitement. Desiree has a B.A. in Early Childhood Education and is a mentor teacher with Delta College. More than 20 student teachers have trained under Desiree here at St. Basil Preschool!
Desiree and her husband, David, have a son and a daughter.
Beverly Burke-Baker
Beverly joined us in 2005 after student teaching in our four year old program. Beverly continues her education in child development, working toward her B.A. degree. Beverly also teaches children’s dance classes in the evening and on the weekends has her own dance troop. Beverly and her husband, Wayne, have two daughters.
5’s Speckled Frogs
Debbie Streeter
This class is designed for the older four year olds and young fives, students who just miss the kindergarten cut off, and children who need a “Bonus Year” of growth. Debbie Streeter has been with St. Basil Preschool since 2000 and is excited for the opportunity and challenge of this class. This small class will focus on the introduction to pre kindergarten skills with a developmental base appropriate for this age level. Debbie and her husband, Larry, have two children.
